Description
STERLING SILVER: is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.
GOLD: used in jewellery is typically alloyed with other metals to increase its strength, as pure gold (24k) is too soft for everyday wear. Common options include:
-
24k Gold – 100% pure gold, very soft and rarely used for everyday jewellery.
-
22k Gold – 91.7% gold, slightly stronger but still soft; often used for traditional pieces.
-
18k Gold – 75% gold and 25% other metals (like copper, silver, or palladium), combining luxury with durability.
-
14k Gold – 58.5% gold and 41.5% alloy metals, more durable and ideal for daily wear.
-
9k Gold – 37.5% gold, the most affordable option, with greater hardness.
